Members of the Columbus Bomb Squad were briefly in Marysville Friday to handle what turned out to be a false alarm. According to local authorities, an auctioneer going through the vacant home at 230 Emmeus Drive Friday afternoon found what appeared to be an artillery shell, pictured below. Local police and fire officials, shown above, secured the residence until the bomb squad arrived at about 1:30 p.m. Within about five minutes, technicians had taken the shell apart and determined it to be empty and dated it to be from about 1918. Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley said the city’s protocol is to contact Columbus’ bomb disposal team when local first responders are unsure about an explosive device. “They did their job,” he said.
