Whether it’s fielding a fly ball (left) or ripping an extra-base hit, Marysville’s Emily Daniel is a vital member of the Lady Monarch softball team. Daniel played with the Central District squad in five All-Star games earlier this week in Pickerington.

Marysville High School’s Emily Daniel posted some huge numbers during her sophomore season of softball this spring.
She continued to show her prowess on the diamond earlier this week when she played for the Central District team during an All-Star tournament at Pickerington Central High School.
Daniel was one of 20 players selected for the Central District team after a tryout process was conducted last month.
She was a member of the district team that tallied a 4-1 record during two days of competition against All-Star squads from other districts throughout the state.
“I did OK during the tournament,” said Daniel. “I think I got four or five hits and stole a couple of bases.”
In doing so, Daniel picked up where her high school season left off. The sophomore outfielder hit .553 with an on-base percentage of .646 and 41 runs scored. Despite being one of the smaller players on the Lady Monarch roster, she hit three home runs and drove in 20. She also finished the season with nine stolen bases.
Of her 47 total hits, 13 went for extra bases, with six doubles and four triples.
Daniel saw defensive action in the outfield and split time with All-Stars from other schools.
“Each group played four innings of an eight-inning game,” she said.
“It was neat to see the All-District teams come together for the tournament,” said Daniel. “It was good to see the range of players from different schools. I saw some of the players I will play against next spring, including those from schools such as Central Crossing and Teays Valley.”
Daniel will take a brief break from softball for the next week as she awaits the next tournament for her summer softball team, the Lazer Silver.
The squad will travel to Indianapolis for a tournament that will run from June 30 until July 3.
