The Union County Holiday Baseball Camp will take place in the Marysville High School Fieldhouse from 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Thursday, Dec. 28.
The camp is in its third year under the direction of MHS head baseball coach Mark Brunswick.
“This is a neat time of year for kids to get out of the house during the holidays and work on baseball,” said Brunswick.
The camp is open to youngsters ages 7-15 from Marysville and the surrounding areas. During the past two years, the camp has accommodated slightly more than 100 participants.
Brunswick said that this year, participation will be capped at 75.
“It’s been a little unwieldy when we’ve had more than 100,” said Brunswick. “We’re going to limit it to 75 due to the amount of space we have.
“It’s also a safety issue,” he said. “With fewer kids, we will be able to control the camp a little better and give the kids more one-on-one instruction.
“As in past years, it’s open to kids in Union County and the surrounding areas.”
Registration is currently underway and may be made by contracting Brunswick at 937-935-0007.
Campers will receive instruction on all facets of baseball from Brunswick, his Monarch coaching staff and members of the MHS team.
Youngsters should bring a glove, bat, tennis shoes, uniform pants and other necessary items.
Each one will receive a camp T-shirt.
Additional instructors will be Dublin Coffman head coach Tim Saunders, Coldwater head coach Tom Brunswick (Mark’s brother) and Rob Cassell of Tecumseh High School.
Several former Monarchs will also serve as instructors.
Jared Yoakam is currently a pitcher for the University of Cincinnati and Nick Feucht formerly played for The Ohio State University.
Tommy Harbold and Lucas Engle are former Youngstown State University players who will also serve as camp instructors.
They will be joined by retired Major League pitcher Ed Whitson who played for several teams, including the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees.
“We are able to bring in several different instructors at this time of year,” said Brunswick. “Summer camps often conflict with team schedules, so it’s easier to get instructors during the off-season.”
