Jacob Wright hit a home run on Thursday when the Marysville Elite 17U baseball team fell to Defiance, 5-4.
Each of the Monarchs’ runs came during separate innings.
The local team held a 2-0 lead until Defiance plated a pair of runs in the home half of the third inning.
Marysville regained a 3-2 margin in the visitors’ portion of the fourth before Defiance scored single runs in the fifth and sixth.
The Monarchs tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh, but Defiance scored the eventual winning run in its half of the frame.
Marysville outhit Defiance, 9-5, but left 11 runners on base.
Wright and Tate Virts each had two of the Monarchs’ hits. Single hits came from Kaleb Schultz, Gavin Sharp, Garrett North, Chase Kilgore and Garrett Lobdell.
Virts pitched eight innings and yielded only two earned runs. He struck out 13, gave up five hits and walked two.
