Olentangy Liberty scored six runs over the final three innings on Tuesday to defeat the Marysville Elite 17U baseball team, 8-4.
The Monarchs held a 3-2 lead after five frames of the nine-inning contest.
The Patriots took the upper hand with three runs in the visitors’ portion of the seventh inning. They scored once in the eighth and tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.
Marysville tallied a final run in the home half of the ninth.
The Monarchs outhit the Patriots, 12-9, but work with the leather definitely favored the Delaware County squad.
Marysville committed five errors, while Liberty played flawless defense.
Gavin Sharp, Drew Eaches and Garrett Lobdell each had two Monarch hits. Also hitting safely were Kaleb Schultz, Jacob Wright, Tyler Drope, Chase Kilgore, Jared Yoakam and Owen Meffley.
Meffley started on the mound for the Monarchs. He yielded five hits and two runs (both earned) during five innings of work. Meffley fanned two and issued one walk.
Kilgore was tagged with the loss during a three-inning relief stint. Of the four runs scored on his watch, however, none were earned. He allowed two hits and walked four.
Lobdell pitched the final inning and gave up two earned runs on a pair of hits.
The Patriots connected on a pair of homers, one against Meffley and the other against Lobdell.
