Emma Cook recorded a hat trick and was supported by four other goals as Fairbanks’ girls soccer team remained unbeaten on Saturday.
Cook tallied the first two of her three goals within the first eight minutes of the opening half as the Lady Panthers (3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Heritage Conference) went on to defeat the Northeastern Jets, 7-0.
The FHS sophomore put the first goal of the game into the net with 33:19 on the opening half clock. She followed less than a minute later with a score that gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
The teams traded possessions over the next few minutes until Samantha Adkins, who had assisted on Cook’s second goal, gave Fairbanks a 3-0 lead.
The teams continued to boot the ball back-and-forth for the remainder of the first stanza.
Cook took even less time to reach the hat trick milestone once second-half play began.
The timer read 38:24 when her third shot pushed FHS out to a 4-0 advantage.
Sarah Young gave the Lady Panthers a 5-0 lead at the 32:50 mark when she headed a corner kick from Megan Olson into the net.
Olson assisted on younger sister Molly’s goal with 30:06 to play.
Devin Baum then put Fairbanks’ final score in the net as the second-half clock neared the midway point.
“We got to see a lot of good things out there today,” said Panther coach Randy Spain. “We moved the ball well, finished our attacks and played good defense.”
