Triad girls drop game
Northeastern’s Hayley Suchland scorched the nets for 41 points as the Jets upended the hosting Triad Lady Cardinal basketball team, 67-61, in the final Ohio Heritage Conference game of the season on Saturday.
“What can you say? Hayley is an absolutely tremendous player who refuses to let her team lose when they are close,” said Triad coach Jeff Merklin. “We tried our best and tried different things, but she was too much today.
“I’m still very proud of our girls for the game they played on Senior Day and am proud of their work the entire season. They have a lot of reasons to be proud of themselves.”
Emma Vanninen led Triad with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Frani LeVan added nine points and senior Tori Thomas hauled down eight rebounds.
The Lady Cards finished the regular season at 11-11 and took third place honors in the OHC with an 8-8 mark.
West Liberty-Salem and Mechanicsburg finished first and second in the circuit.
The Lady Cardinals will travel to Sidney High School to open the Division IV tournament.
They will play Jackson Center at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
