The Lady Monarch varsity soccer squad broke a four-year drought to Thomas Worthington and improved its overall record to 4-2-1 with a win Thursday night.
Marysville outscored the Cardinals, 2-1.
The Lady Monarchs controlled the pace of the game and dominated the play of possession.
Celia Soller put MHS’ first goal on the board mid-way through the first half with a well-placed side-netted score.
MHS went off the field with a 1-0 advantage at the turn and played the second half similar to the opening stanza.
Jenna Rioch scored a header on a corner kick from Hope Powers.
Keeper Anna Weigand and the defense kept the opposite side of the field spotless up until the final two minutes when Thomas Worthington squeaked a goal in from the side.
Marysville’s JV squad played the Jr. Cardinals to a 1-1 tie.
Emily Daniel tallied the Jr. Monarchs’ goal.
