A bright and sunny fall afternoon did not translate into a victory for the Marysville High School girls soccer squad on Saturday.
The Lady Monarchs fell to Olentangy, 6-0, during the non-conference match-up.
Marysville (5-5-2 on the season) appeared to be out of synch the entire contest, committing numerous fouls. The Lady Monarchs were not being able to get any real offensive threat established.
The Braves controlled field position and ball possession for much of the afternoon.
They were able to capitalize on the Lady Monarchs’ infractions by scoring three goals in each half.
The visitors from Delaware County needed very little time to put the first score on the board.
A shot that flew over the head of MHS keeper Anna Weigand broke the scoring ice with 32:38 left in the opening half.
Sarah O’Neil responded with a shot on goal for Marysville a few minutes later.
That effort, however, sailed wide of the mark.
Weigand had several additional clears as the timer clicked to within the final few minutes of the half.
The Braves booted a free kick after a Marysville foul and that led to their second goal of the day.
Another free kick with 1:55 on the clock put Olentangy in position to score the goal that gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage at the turn.
Kinzi Lee took her spot in the net for the Lady Monarchs (who will host Upper Arlington on Tuesday) during the second half.
The teams swapped possessions for the first 26 minutes of the stanza before the Braves tallied their fourth goal.
The Braves took a 5-0 margin about four minutes later and wrapped up the scoring with a little more than a minute left to play.
MHS recorded a few shot attempts during the second half, but none found the mark.
Weigand and Lee combined for six saves.
“If you can’t put things together, you’re not going to win,” said Monarch coach Nathan Andrews.

West Liberty held a 1-0 at the half and added four additional goals with 37, 17, nine and six minutes to go in the second half.
Fairbanks (8-2-3) notched its goal with 11 minutes to go in the game off a corner from Megan Olson to Joelle Ziegler.
Macy Wanamaker was credited with nine saves.
The Panther boys lost to West Liberty 7-2.
