The Marysville High School boys basketball team broke into the win column on Saturday, while the Fairbanks boys slipped to 0-2.
Both teams went on the road with the Monarchs claiming a 64-41 decision over Marion Harding and the Panthers dropping a 62-46 verdict at London.
A scoring milestone was also reached over the weekend.
Triad’s Hadley LeVan scored his 1,000th career point during the Cardinals’ 57-50 victory over North Union.
MHS-Harding
Marysville’s defense sparkled during the second and third quarters as the Presidents were limited to 16 points over that stretch.
Harding took a 15-14 edge into the second period before its offense was hobbled by the Monarchs (1-1).
A 23-point explosion during that stanza pushed MHS out to a 37-22 halftime lead.
Marysville took a 45-31 advantage into the fourth quarter and never looked back.
Freshman Jack Christian led the Monarchs with 13 points. He was joined in double figures by Bodie Eberhart-12 and Jacob Ranker-11.
Marshall Francisco tallied nine points, followed by Phil Hughes-eight, Grant Colopy-three, Jarrett Karnes-two, Spencer Mills-two, Gabe Schaeffer-two and Trenton Sifring-two.
The Monarchs will travel to Westland on Friday.
FHS-London
After leading 17-15 at the end of the opening stanza, the Panthers managed only three points during the second set.
The Red Raiders capitalized on FHS’ dry spell to take a 26-20 margin at the turn.
London expanded on its lead during the second half by grabbing a 45-36 spread at the end of the third stanza.
Cross Hackathorne was the lone Panther in double figures as he scored 16 points.
Mason Smith notched nine, followed by Tyler Beem-seven, Gavin Horn-six, Jacob Nicol-five and Baylor Green-three.
The Panthers will travel to West Jefferson on Friday.
Cardinals top Triad
LeVan poured in 31 points during the Cardinals’ victory on the second night of the Benjamin Logan Classic.
LeVan scored eight points during the opening quarter as Triad took a 12-8 lead.
He added seven more during the ensuing set, leading the Cardinals (2-0) to a 29-22 margin at the turn.
NU trailed, 40-31, by the end of the third quarter.
LeVan scored 12 points, all from the free throw line, during the fourth period.
Briley Harlan and Jacob Greve each scored eight points for the Cardinals.
Cam Atchison tallied seven, followed by Austin Bails, who added three.
The Wildcats (1-1) got 11 points apiece from Cody Neel, Riley Price and Harley Day.
Trevyn Feasel and Preston Crabtree each scored six, Connor Terrill scored three and Mason Soviak added a basket.
Triad will travel to Graham on Tuesday.
NU will host Clear Fork on Friday.
