Marysville High School sophomore Jacquelyn Witt was the runner-up in the girls cross-country race in London on Saturday.
Witt was clocked in 19:30 as she helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a third-place team finish during the 44th annual Erin L. Nance Invitational at the London Country Club.
A total of five Lady Monarchs ran the first two miles of the race together and increased their footing during the final hilly section of the course.
The top six girls finished in the top 30 of the race.
Also scoring for the MHS girls were Morgan Forney (16th, 20:50), Katie Krueger (17th, 20:52), Leanne Eichorn (18th, 20:54) and Emma Rice (22nd, 21:11).
The Marysville boys had several athletes miss the meet due to illness.
“We had several runners step up and seize the opportunity to compete at the varsity level on Saturday,” said coach Luke Sundermeier.
The Marysville boys finished seventh out of 19 teams.
Leading the way was Hayden Turk, who was 15th in a time of 17:39.
Also scoring for the Monarchs were Brendan Ralston (28th, 17:57), Riley Karnes (43rd, 18:19), John Speasmaker (53rd, 18:29) and Tyler Marsh (56th, 18:36).
The Monarchs have one more invitational (at Thomas Worthington on Saturday) before beginning the postseason championship meets.
Athletes compete at Buck Creek
Triad’s girls and boys cross-country teams competed in the Buck Creek Invitational.
Holly Cole set a new school record with a 12th-place time of 20:08.
Alea Ferguson was 53rd in 22:17.9.
Eli O’Brien was 62nd in the boys race with a time of 18:45.1.
Zane Robison (233rd) and Jacob Warner (264th) set personal records with respective times of 22:00.1 and 23:31.3.
Joe Ferguson was 21st in the boys junior high race with a time of 13:04. Ryan Stalk was 135th in 20:42.1.
Wyatt Robison completed the shorter fun run in 7:25.1 and Emma Ferguson was clocked in 7:54.6.
Adeline Fitzwater was the first Fairbanks High School to cross the finish line at Buck Creek with a 22nd place effort of 21:14.8. Kalor Greve also placed in the top 50 with a 48th-place time of 22:10.8.
Fairbanks placed eighth as a team in the high school girls meet.
The Panther boys finished 11th in the high school boys race.
Aidan Groves was 39th in 18:10.4 to finish in the top 50.
Fairbanks’ Lily Demeter was 34th in the girls junior high race with a time of 15:56.8.
Kate Coy was 39th in 16:06.1.
The Fairbanks middle school boys were sixth as a team.
Dylan Tobe was 11th in 12:27.1 and Joey Ziegler was 20th in 12:59.7.
