The Lady Monarch varsity volleyball squad notched a four-set victory over Westland by scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23 on Tuesday.
Playing in front of a crowded gym of future Lady Monarchs (the middle school), MHS had a clean sweep with the freshmen, JV and varsity teams all earning victories.
Gritty defense and strong serve receptions were the keys for the Lady Monarchs.
Madi Bentz led the serving charge with 16 points.
Lily Keber topped the Monarchs with nine kills and Sara Berkland tallied 16 assists.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action this evening when they host Newark Catholic.
Lady Pioneers win
Jonathan Alder’s spikers topped Urbana 25-13, 25-8, 25-8.
The Lady Pioneers are now 8-0 in Central Buckeye Conference action, while Urbana slipped to 7-1.
Sam Durbin was perfect on serves with 13.
Ava Francis and Corrine Parker led with seven kills apiece and Kortney Reynolds led with three solo blocks and a trio of assisted blocks.
JA will travel to Kenton Ridge on Thursday for a match that should determine the CBC champion.
FHS still unbeaten
Fairbanks’ volleyball team ran its record to 17-0 with a 3-2 victory at Greenon.
Scores for the Lady Panthers were 25-11, 25-23, 26-28, 25-27, 15-13.
No stats were available for the match.
The Lady Panthers will host West Jefferson on Thursday.
