The swimming teams of Marysville High School have had better days in the pool as they came up short against Westerville South on Friday.
The Lady Monarchs missed out on a victory by a meager three points (86-83), while the boys fell by a score of 109-87.
Despite the losses in the pool, head coach Craig Faircloth said his teams swam better then he thought they would after a lack of pool time because of the holidays.
“We swam better than I anticipated following a couple of weeks of reduced training time for many of our swimmers because of the holidays,” he said.
Despite dropping the matches, several Monarch swimmers took home first place in their respective races.
The following Lady Monarchs took first in their events:
-200 yard freestyle: Mikayla Seman, 2:17.96;
-200 yard intermediate: Remini Roush, 2:32.33;
-50 yard freestyle: Morgan Grawe, 26.19;
-100 yard freestyle: Rachel Poling 56.93;
-100 yard breaststroke: Poling, 1:10.64.
The following boys took first in their events:
-200 yard medley: Aron Moledor, Hank Luther, Ethan Turk and Hunter Lowe, 1:56.5;
-100 breaststroke: Moledor, 1:09.43.
Faircloth believes that once he can get his swimmers back in the pool, they will see more progress.
“I anticipate us progressing well as a team, peaking at the sectional and district championships in February,” he said.
The Monarchs will return to the pool today when they host Dublin Scioto High School at the Union County YMCA.
