The Marysville Elite 17U baseball team made it to the championship game of the Omaha Classic before tasting defeat.
The Monarchs finished the tournament with six victories in seven games.
The local squad downed Bellevue 15-6 and Norris 12-6 leading up to the tournament’s semifinals.
Garrett Lobdell was the winning pitcher against Bellevue. He allowed eight hits in four innings of work. He fanned one and walked two.
Steven Shamhart, Drew Eaches, Michael Bonczak and Jared Yoakam each had two hits for the Monarchs.
Blaine Williams drove in three runs, while Bonczak and Shamhart each drove in two.
Joey Watts started on the hill against Norris and gave way to reliever Williams, who notched the victory.
Williams fanned two batters in a pair of innings.
Kaleb Schultz went three-for-five at the plate and drove in a run.
Chase Kilgore and Lobdell each drove in a trio of runs, while Tate Virts and Kilgore each finished with two hits.
The Monarchs downed the Knights, 11-7, during the tournament’s semifinals.
Gavin Sharp had the hot stick with three hits in four trips to the plate. He also drove in three runs.
Josh Ruychlik and Jacob Wright each tallied two of the Monarchs’ 11 hits.
Virts got the starting nod on the mound and was the winning pitcher.
He struck out six, walked five and allowed only two hits in four innings.
Watts worked one inning of middle relief and Williams notched the save in two innings.
The Monarchs dropped their lone game of the tournament with a 7-4 setback to the Warriors in the title game.
Wright had two of Marysville’s five hits.
Eaches was the losing pitcher.
