The North Union football “Road Warriors” continued their winning ways away from Richwood with Friday’s 21-17 victory at Ontario.
The Wildcats broke the .500 mark when Garrett Miller’s two-yard run and Drake Price’s extra point provided for the game’s final margin.
The contest featured four exchanges in the lead and NU sealed the deal when Chris Cox intercepted a deflected pass with 48 seconds left to play.
Neither team cracked the scoring column during the opening period.
The Wildcats (3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference) put the first points on the board.
Carson Smith ripped off a 42-yard TD run and Price booted the extra point.
Ontario responded with an 11-yard pass from Cam Todd to Ethan Pensante. The extra point was good, as both teams were tied at 7-7 by the end of the opening half.
The game remained deadlocked as action moved into the final period.
A 35-yard field goal by Spencer Hall gave the Warriors a 10-7 lead.
North Union regained the upper hand on a one-yard run by Miller and Price’s PAT.
It was Ontario’s turn to take the lead on an eight-yard pass from Todd to Lyle Scott. The extra point gave the Warriors a 17-14 margin.
NU went ahead for good with 1:16 on the timer when Miller plunged into the end zone from two-yards out.
The Wildcats outgained Ontario in total yardage, 333-261.
North Union will host Pleasant on Friday.
