The Triad Cardinals hosted West Jefferson in the opening game of the 2017 junior high football season on Thursday evening.
The Roughriders won, 14-0.
Trevor Stewart led the Cardinals on offense with 65 yards on seven carries, as well as adding 14 yards on two pass receptions.
Wyatt Cole was three-for-nine passing for the Cards.
Chase Hecker led the way for Triad’s defense with six tackles and a fumble recovery. Mason Harper had a pass interception.
“I was very proud of our kids tonight,” said coach Jeff Merklin. “We fought hard against a very good football team. Their only scores came off of turnovers. Our defense was outstanding and we had some flashes of good play on offense.”
The Cardinals will travel to Springfield Catholic Central next week.
