Naomi Mae Holmes Cavender, 80, of Marysville, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Memorial Gables.
A hard-working woman of faith, she and her family owned and operated Dari-Land, across from Legion Park, for many years. She later co-owned Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Minster and Cavender Hardware Store in Richwood. She was a member of Haven Community Church and King’s Daughters. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing to bluegrass music and playing in many bowling leagues throughout the years. She was very involved with the Union County Republican Party. Above all, she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family.
She was born May 5, 1937, in Blue Creek, West Virginia, to the late Woodrow and Lora Haynes Holmes. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lowell Thomas “Tom” Cavender; son, Kenneth “Kenny” Allen Cavender; and daughter-in-law, Jeri Baltazar Cavender.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Randall “Randy” Cavender of Marysville; daughter, Katherine “Kathy” Cavender Rahmani of Marysville; daughter-in-law, Kari Cavender of Lexington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Hanby, Taleb Rahmani, Daniel Cavender, Kyle Cavender, Nathan Cavender and Christy Cavender; great-grandchildren, Lexi Hanby and Lincoln Hanby; sisters, Lois Kiser, Genella Brown and Janet (Don) Stalnaker; in-laws, Sandra (Jim) Keiffer, John (Ruth) Cavender, Steve (Sue) Cavender and Chuck (Vicky) Cavender; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Underwood Funeral Home, where the Rev. Brian Brooks will officiate funeral services at noon Tuesday. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
