Above the water
A pair of powered paragliders are shown flying over the Marysville Reservoir recently. The recreational fliers passed over the water before gaining altitude, clearing the treetops and gliding out of sight to the east. Powered paragliding involves a pilot using a wing, similar to a parachute, and a backpack motor with a fan-like propeller that provides enough thrust for flight. By combining the characteristics of paragliding and powered flight, pilots can climb, fly level and cover great distances, even in still air. The devices can take off either by the pilot running to gain speed or by using a wheeled vehicle, like a quad. The activity is not FAA regulated.
