Bellefontaine man injured in crash
A Bellefontaine man suffered life-threatening injuries following a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Logan County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 9:40 a.m. Thursday on Route 347 at the ramp to U.S. 33 east in Perry Township. Troopers from the Marysville Post are investigating the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2009 Honda Civic driven by Cody Patterson, 33, of Bellefontaine, was traveling southeast on Route 347 and entered the turn lane for U.S. 33 east. A 2022 Subaru WRX driven by Andrew Turner, 44, of Kenton, entered the same turn lane and struck Patterson’s vehicle from behind.
The impact caused Patterson’s vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway and strike a light pole. The Subaru traveled left of center and struck a 2025 Freightliner semi tractor operated by Christopher Simmons, 43, of Marysville. All three vehicles were disabled in the roadway after the crash.
Patterson and Simmons were wearing seat belts and were not injured, according to the release. Turner was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He was transported by MedFlight to Ohio State University Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
The Ohio Department of Transportation and Perry Township Fire and EMS assisted at the scene. Troopers said drug impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
