Ohio A.G. goes after Roblox

State pension systems claims $21.5M loss

By From JT Staff Reports

Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson is seeking to take a lead role in a class-action lawsuit accusing video game developer Roblox of misleading investors about child-safety protections on its online platform.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office filed a motion Friday seeking lead-plaintiff status in the case on behalf of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio.

The lawsuit alleges Roblox, headquartered in San Mateo, California, portrayed its platform as a safe environment for children while failing to implement adequate protections against online predators.

“Roblox lied to investors and failed to protect children from online predators,” Wilson said. “We’re taking action to recover millions in lost pension funds and to make it clear that tech companies must be held accountable when they put kids in harm’s way.”

According to the Attorney General’s Office, the alleged deception resulted in significant losses for investors, including a combined $21.5 million for OPERS and STRS between October 2024 and April 2026.

The lawsuit alleges that while Roblox marketed itself as a safe, family-friendly platform, inadequate safety measures left children vulnerable to predators and sexual content.

According to the lawsuit, regulatory actions eventually led Roblox to implement mandatory age verification and restrictions on communications between adults and minors.

In April, Roblox announced the safety measures had contributed to a decline in user growth and reduced its annual revenue projection by $1 billion. The announcement was followed by an 18% decline in the company’s stock price, wiping out approximately $6 billion in market value.

The lawsuit seeks damages for financial losses allegedly caused by the company’s actions.

The case is pending in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Roblox executives David Baszucki, Naveen Chopra and Michael Guthrie are also named as defendants.
