Ax used to stop dog fight

By Kyle Meddles

The Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to a dog fight that was broken up by an owner with an ax on Thursday.

Two dogs were sent to emergency vet clinics as a result of the fight and the case is still under investigation.

At 11:10 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of Kingfisher Place in Jerome Township for a report of an aggressive, loose dog that had attacked two other dogs.

Lt. Josh Kent with the sheriff’s office said the caller reported that a tan pit bull mix was attacking their mini golden retriever. In order to separate the dogs, Kent said the caller’s husband grabbed an ax and used it to stop the dog fight. Traffic from the scanner indicated that the man used the ax to defend their dog by hitting the pit bull with it.

The pit bull and another dog were transported to emergency veterinarian clinics and the Union County Dog Warden was called in to assist on-scene. The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
