The North Union Board of Education approved the proposal from LeVan’s Excavating in the amount of $133,644 for early site work for the new football practice field on Monday. The Village of Richwood Council passed a resolution on Monday to establish an enterprise Magnetic Springs Sewer Fund and to transfer $20,000 from the village’s general fund to the new fund for the multidistrict sanitary system. “(Fiscal Officer) Sarah (Sellers) needs starting money,” said Council member Reddy Brown. A multidistrict wastewater plant between Magnetic Springs and Richwood is in the planning stages. On-site treatment systems (septic tanks) for treatment and disposal of wastewater in Magnetic Springs have been failing for several years, according to documentation from the Union County Health Department. The majority of the on-site wastewater treatment systems discharge leachate to the storm sewer systems of the village. The Village of Richwood Council wants answers to why an expected Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) was awarded to another municipality. The township trustees have voted to merge the Leesburg Township Fire Department with the Northwestern Joint Fire District at a recent special meeting to improve response times and manpower. The Northwestern Joint Fire District, 21684 Main Street, Raymond, is a 24/7 fire and rescue district funded by the existing levies in place by Taylor, Liberty and York townships.
