The Lady Cats of North Union upped their volleyball record to 20-1 on Saturday. No. 1 seed NU scored a 25-11, 25-8, 25-10 verdict over No. 16 Amanda Clearcreek in Division III tournament action. Fairbanks’ girls soccer squad upped its record to 11-6 with Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Lancaster Fairfield Union. The contest came during the Division III tournament. Bunsold Middle School eighth-grader Bailey Gross was the runner-up during Saturday’s Ohio High School Athletic Association state middle school cross country meet. Gross was clocked in 12:24 during the event that was held at Fortress Obetz near Columbus. That not only was second in her division, but was the second-best overall time involving each division. The Lady Monarchs did not place as a team. The Bunsold boys, however, earned a fifth-place state spot. Collins Road at Middleburg Plain City will be closed until at least the end of November for a bridge replacement. County Engineer Jeff Stauch said the bridge at that intersection is being rehabilitated. He said the bridge was built in the 1970 and has deteriorated over time. Stauch said rehabilitating the bridge over the Big Darby is more cost effective than replacing it. Stauch said the bridge will get a new concrete and steel deck. According to Marysville Police Department reports: Police responded to the scene of an accident involving Mark Russell Steffen, 52, of E. Seventh Street and Prince Kwadwo Amponsah, 52, of Sharon Green Drive that occurred on Coleman’s Crossing Blvd. at 12:10 p.m. Thursday. Reports indicate Steffen, a pedestrian, was unloading an item out of his vehicle onto a flat-bed cart in the Walgreens parking lot. Amponsah struck the cart, causing the cart to strike Steffen and causing an injury to his ankle. No citations are listed as a result of the incident. The Marysville Elks recently presented a check for $2,000 to the Marysville Food Pantry. The money will be used at local grocery stores to stock the pantry shelves with food items. Food Pantry Director Gary Simpson said it serves more than 300 families each month and the cash donation allows the organization to meet certain needs.
