Brady Fox of Jonathan Alder was the match medalist when the Pioneer boys golfers defeated London, 161-194, earlier this week. Fox led the field by carding a 37. The freshman tallied a pair of birdies, including a 15-foot shot on the final hole. In doing so, he edged London’s Cade Smith for medalist honors by one stroke. The Lady Monarch volleyball squad lost a hard-fought, five-set battle at Hilliard Darby on Thursday. Marysville dropped the first game 21-25 and then won the next two by respective scores of 27-25, 28-26. MHS lost the final two games 19-25, 6-15. Alyssa Codner led MHS’ offensive attack with 11 kills. Carys Gossett and Madison Fluharty each tallied eight kills. Sarah Peterson contributed 27 assists, while Ella Morris added 14. Dear Editor, I would like to talk about the situation with musicians being silenced throughout this pandemic. For the past month, trying to get advice and any sign of leadership to simply get approval to perform/practice music outside has resulted in brick walls. John Edward and Wendy Kay (Gerdeman) Mangas of Marysville are celebrating their 50th anniversary. The couple was married Sept. 12, 1970 by the Rev. Raymond Boesch at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lima. He is retired from American Electric Power and also served in the Army and Air Force Reserves. She is retired from St. Rita’s Medical Center. The couple has three children, Jennifer (Kevin) Talley of Dublin, John II (Elizabeth) Mangas of Upper Arlington and James (Carolyn) Mangas of Columbus. They also have six grandchildren. Electric vehicle owners have a new charging option Marysville. Earlier this week, the city completed installation of a new, electric vehicle charging station at the northwest corner of Sixth and Plum streets. A pair of parking spots next to the station will dedicated for electric vehicles. Charging stations allow electric and hybrid vehicles to recharge while they are parked. The city will pay for any electricity used and will evaluate the cost. Officials said that if the station gets a lot of use, the city could add more. (Journal-Tribune photo by Sam Dillon)

Reports indicate a local male advised his medication was missing. The Pigskin Pickers race remains tight after the second week of high school games. Managing editor Chad Williamson, sports editor Tim Miller, reporter Mac Cordell and sports reporter Sam Dillon all posted 4-1 records. The only game they each lost was Hilliard Darby’s rally over Marysville last Friday. Publisher Kevin Behrens went 3-2, dropping the Monarchs’ game and a close loss by Triad to West Liberty-Salem. The Monarch boys varsity golf squad placed fourth during the final Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division match of the season. Marysville carded a 344 for its finish during the competition that was held at Darby Creek on Wednesday. Dublin Jerome won the tournament with a 292, followed by Olentangy Berlin-319, Thomas Worthington-330, Marysville-344, Hilliard Darby-354 and Olentangy-363. Jerome finished unbeaten during the conference portion of the 2020 schedule. The Lady Pioneers of Jonathan Alder upped their soccer record to 7-0 on Wednesday. JA traveled to Benjamin Logan and turned back the Raiders, 7-0. Katie Hooley led Alder with a hat trick (three goals). Madison Ice sent the ball into the net twice, while single goals came from Emma Hicks and Taylor Cameron. Benjamin Logan finished the contest with 15 shots on goal. All of the offerings were thwarted by Alder keeper Ashley Warren.
