Marysville’s middle school volleyball teams swept Big Walnut on Wednesday. The eighth grade won 25-12, 25-8. Clarissa Hamilton tallied three kills and one ace. Bella Hackett finished with four kills, while Paityn Hoskins came up with four ace serves. The seventh grade spikers rolled to a 25-2, 25-13 verdict. Marysville’s Aaliyah West stepped up to the line and served the final 23 points to win the first game.

Pooch owners from around the city took advantage of the Marysville Swimming Pool’s end-of-season dog swim Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. While humans were discouraged from taking a dip, dozens of four-legged companions were eager to take the plunge. The Jerome Township Division of Fire kept busy during a stormy holiday weekend. Fire Chief Douglas Stewart said the department responded to two fires caused by lightning strikes over the course of one night. At approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Stewart said crews were dispatched to Currier Road on a report of a barn that was struck by lightning. “Crews found some minor damage inside the barn and the fire was out upon arrival,” Stewart said. The utility bill due date for Plain City residents has been extended, following technical difficulties that have since been resolved. According to a release from the village, last week the village experienced “technical issues with its automated meter reading technology provider.” The issue caused the village to delay the printing and delivery of monthly utility bills. Once the problem was resolved, bills were sent to customers with a revised due date of Sept. 22. In a letter to council, Village Administrator Nathan Cahall said bills were sent out beginning Sept. 3 and “a small batch” followed the next day. He…

Demonstrators supporting police and President Donald Trump gathered at Scheiderer Transport Inc. on Route 161, east of Plain City Saturday morning in response to a planned anti-police brutality protest. At the end of August, a social media post called for a peaceful demonstration across from the trucking company property to “protest police brutality and racist flags.” Several “Blue Lives Matter” and pro-Trump flags are on display along the front fence at the Scheiderer property. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Board of Directors on Tuesday hired Doug Ute as the organization’s next leader, making the former coach, teacher, athletic administrator, principal and superintendent the OHSAA’s 11th leader in its 113-year history.
