MARKHAM –––– Coaching can sometimes be a thankless job. There are the long hours at practice and additional work when the student-athletes go home. A coach spends additional time going over strategies or working on other administrative duties that surround the title of ‘coach.’ For one local coach, the thanks came at the end of the 2017-18 bowling season. For the fourth consecutive year, North Union grapplers will be headed to the state tournament at The Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center. The Jonathan Alder boys bowlers found themselves competing for a Division II state title Friday at Webb Wayne’s Columbus Bowl. The Pioneers came up just short during the championship round against Mechanicsburg. After the opening round of 16 teams, the Pioneers were in third place with a team score of 3336 behind Graham-3358 and St. Henry-3392. THOMPSON –––– The North Union Wildcats found themselves in 16th place after scoring 42.5 points at the Division III district wrestling meet at Heath High School on Saturday. They will also advance two wrestlers to the state, which will begin Thursday at The Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center.
