Several residents of Dudley Circle wants answer from council about drainage problems and flooding. Contractor Jason Wills attended a council meeting last year listing his plan in completing the construction project of Dudley Circle, which was started several decades ago. Wills is the third generation contractor to work on the development of Dudley Circle and he wants to finish the development so that he can build additional houses. At Monday’s meeting of the North Union Board of Education, Superintendent Rich Baird presented an update of how the coronavirus is affecting students in the district. The goal has been to get the students back to Learning Level 1 before the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Since Feb. 1, North Union elementary and middle school students have been attending school four days a week – Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with Wednesdays as remote learning days. Richwood Village Administrator Monte Asher will meet Thursday for a Pre-Construction meeting regarding the South Franklin Street project. Asher told council members at Monday’s meeting that the project will begin with replacing water lines from the village limits heading north toward the uptown, going as far as the grant funds will take the project. Then the next portion of work will include other infrastructure improvements, such as sewer lines. It was mentioned that the project is projected to begin in late March. The North Union Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday evening and heard a report of how the COVID-19 virus has affected the school district. Superintendent Rich Baird updated board members with statistics.  From Oct. 5 through Nov. 16, students spent 29 days in classrooms. After Thanksgiving, the district went to Level 4, which was a complete remote learning program for six days. Most recently, students spent the last 15 days before Christmas break on the hybrid level. Village council members heard a presentation during their regular Monday night meeting from the Richwood Redevelopment Committee regarding the town hall project. Reddy Brown and Aaron Smith, both gave council much information about the project and the history of the former Town Hall building that once was a vital part of the village. Council is aware that the roof is about to fall over the second floor gymnasium due to a truss that has collapsed, causing the weak roof to sag. Richwood Village Council met Monday with some members attending remotely and others behind in masks behind new plexi-glass shields in order to follow CDC guidelines. Village resident Jerry Moore inquired about the upcoming South Franklin Street project. Justin North, a North Union senior, attended council’s regular meeting Monday evening to tell members of his work at Richwood Park. For several years, children enjoyed playing on a “walking bridge” that had been removed due to wear and tear and damage over the years. North decided that his Eagle Scout project would be to update the bridge for the children who visit the park. North is a member of the Richwood Boy Scout Troop 440 and enlisted the help of fellow scout members, family and friends to revitalize the popular bridge on the playground. Registered voters in Union County will go to the voting polls Tuesday, Nov. 3 to vote during the General Election. It has been well publicized that voters will cast their votes for the President of the United States, Supreme Court judges, local officials and issues, but one not so well publicized is a renewal levy for North Union Schools. Richwood resident Aaron Smith attended Monday night’s village council meeting to ask officials about the former opera house/town hall building. He asked them about organizing a group of volunteers who would do some grant research in regards to locating funds that could be used to help update the aging structure. Richwood Village Council members suspended the three-reading rule, due to time constraints, to approve a resolution which allows them to authorize Access Engineering to apply an application to the Ohio Public Works Commission for funding the water plant replacement project in the village. Council knows that it will have to replace the current water plant to keep with guidelines with the Ohio EPA. With an estimated cost of over $1.2 million to replace the plant, the village will to secure grant money to help pay for the project. The Richwood Village Council continues dealing with the regulations of the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. During Monday night’s regular council meeting, councilman Reddy Brown announced that the North Union Athletic Committee (NUAC) has had to postpone its annual Richwood Sports Festival.
