The annual Marysville-Delaware Hayes football rivalry will be played this year on a neutral site. Due to the construction project at the MHS gridiron stadium, the Monarchs will once again go on the road for a home game. This time, Marysville (1-0) will travel to Hilliard Bradley to face the 1-0 Pacers on Friday. The Monarchs rolled past Columbus Northland, 49-0, last week to open the season. Many folks in the Delaware County community of Powell were stunned over the summer when their school, Village Academy, closed its doors. The long-time institution saw its student enrollment dwindle year by year until it was determined during the summer break that it just wasn’t feasible to continue operations. That decision left Village Academy students, including its athletes, scrambling to find new academic homes. While the school’s closing was a sad day for Village Academy sports, it did have an upside for the Fairbanks High School girls cross-country team. The Marysville High School and Bunsold Middle School cross-country teams competed at the Wapakoneta Night Meet on Saturday. The Lady Monarchs placed first in the high school and middle school races. Marysville’s varsity boys were fourth and the Bunsold boys placed second. MHS’ varsity girls won their race with 46 points.
