In the day and age of wanting immediate feedback, what’s it worth if you don’t act on it when possible?
Today you will see a change to the masthead of the Marysville Journal-Tribune. This change will allow us to inkjet the subscriber mail labels at both printing plants that we use to better serve our subscribers who receive the newspaper through the post office.
Another change we made recently was increasing the size of type in stories after hearing from customers who said that what we were using was too small and hard to read. The suggestions we get are a way for us to connect with readers and provide a product they feel like they are part of. That connection engages citizens who are concerned and want to be informed about what is going on in their community, like, for example, with the last election.
In that election, we saw that one of the reasons readers were drawn to the candidates was by advertising – those who advertised more than their opponents won.
We are also gaining citizen engagement with our J-T podcast.
Our podcast, which won an Associated Press award in 2023, gives us the ability to gain traction among residents who may not yet read the newspaper, allowing us to expand our reach throughout the area.
We appreciate hearing from officials who enjoy the podcast content because some have told us they like it so much that they listen to episodes more than once.
We also meet with many of the new developers who are looking to locate here who have read the J-T or listened to the podcast because they want to learn the pulse of the community. We are constantly told in those meetings that such a well informed public is a rare breed in this day an age. We take that as a compliment.
As we look forward to August when the newspaper celebrates its 175th anniversary, we wanted to acknowledge some of the new ideas that have come forward to help make our newspaper a reliable news source the community can be proud to have.
