Dear editor,
I am asking the citizens of Union County and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center school district to please support Ohio Hi-Point’s upcoming permanent improvement levy.
Support of Ohio Hi-Point’s permanent improvement levy will offer enhanced lab-learning classes in fields that have jobs to be filled within our own communities. It will also provide students with more opportunities for advanced technical training needed for the modern-day workforce.
As an internship coordinator at the Early College High School (one of Ohio Hi-Point’s satellite schools), I have been working with both small and large businesses in our county to develop partnerships with our students. By giving our students these internship opportunities, businesses can begin planning for and experiencing what skills these students have been taught in both high school and college courses. After the first year of running the internship program, we have placed approximately 45 seniors in local businesses, providing them with an inside look into a careers and work cultures.
We also work with business partners by asking volunteers to come in and present their career pathway story to freshmen and sophomore students. Upperclassmen are also invited to attend the sessions. These same students are then asked to job shadow at area businesses throughout their junior year.
Your vote will help us continue this real-world education. Currently, workforce development is at the forefront of education. Our students are being exposed to work experiences like never before in education. Please support our small 0.6-mill permanent levy on May 8.
