Memories of Growing Up in Marysville


Editor’s note: This is the 56th of a series about growing up in Marysville during the late 1930s and the 1940s written by Bill Boyd. Each article is a snapshot of the people, businesses and activities during that era as seen through the eyes of a young boy.
Boyd was born in Marysville in 1932, graduated from Marysville High School in 1950, and lived the greater part of his life here.
Run, Jackie, run
At the risk of seeming un-American, let me begin by confessing that I’m not a baseball fan. In fact, I would just as soon sit on our patio and watch my neighbor clean out his downspouts as watch a baseball game. At times I have tried to get interested in baseball, but I guess it is just not in me. When I was maybe nine years old, there was a kid in our neighborhood named John Sanders. He was one year younger than me, but he knew everything there was to know about baseball.
