Student council plans events
By Isabelle Shroyer
Student council at Marysville High School (MHS) is a way to help students have leadership opportunities, organize school activities, and participate in community service.
Council members are looking forward to these upcoming events: teacher appreciation week, Pennies for Patients, spirit week, which ran this week, a pep rally today, the winter formal Saturday and the annual blood drive on Feb. 28.
MHS Student Council also consults and works with the Marysville Early College High School on large events. Council continues to bring MHS together through school spirit and community service.
Council members run a lot of activities with the goal of encouraging student participation. Many of those ideas are brought about during meetings and voted on.
Members of council spread school spirit and relay the voice of the student body. Anyone can be a member of council, but there are certain roles students must be voted into.

Swingers take grand champion title, win best in various categories
By Megan Cunningham
On Jan. 26, the Marysville Swingers Unlimited placed first and were named grand champions in the Hurricane Red Hot Championship in Hurricane, West Virginia.
The Swingers won best in vocals, choreography, show design and costume.
“It was an amazing feeling when we had won knowing that our hard work up until this point had paid off,” Swingers senior member Zach Shafer said. “It makes me very optimistic about where we can take our future and how much we can grow.”
Swingers senior member Kayden Cordell said his favorite part was having the opportunity of accepting awards.
“Emily Pierce and I accepted awards, and when they announced Marysville as grand champion, we were so happy,” he said. “The group standing beside of us congratulated us. I love that you can always feel supported in the show choir community no matter what the competition results are.”
Swingers senior member Myah Rose said the last four years of her high school career and participation in show choir “have gone by incredibly fast.”
“I spent my last-first competition with my fellow show choir members realizing we are more than a competitive group, we are a family,” she said. “With this being my last season, I plan on spreading the sunshine everywhere I go. I love all my fellow show choir members and can’t wait to see what the season has in store.”
The Swingers will compete at the Hamilton Double H Showcase Feb. 16.
Drama Club to play “Chicago”
By Chase Cuteralli
The Marysville High School Drama Club will perform “Chicago” for its spring show.
The play will be directed by Luke and Kelsey Ahern, as well as Jacob Newland. It will be performed April 12, 13 and 14.
Rehearsals for the musical have already begun, and officials say so far, it seems promising.
“We had long conversations about the choice of this year’s musical,” Ahern said. “And ultimately decided that we wanted to set up a performance unlike anything we have done in a while, and something that was high interest to students.”
Ahern said when she contacted the company whom the club purchased rights for the play, she learned there was a high school version of it available, “and we immediately knew that was the right choice.”
“Chicago” is set in the titular city during the “roaring jazz hot” 1920s and tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked in Cook County Jail.
“We are currently in the middle of rehearsal season three days a week, and students are working hard to learn lines and music right now,” Ahern said. “This year’s cast is so talented, and it was very apparent through the first script readthrough that their talent was really going to shine through the parts they were selected for.”
Ahern said she expects there to be a full house for each performance, and urged those interested in attending to get their tickets in advance.
