Dear Editor,
First of all let me begin this Letter to the Editor by saying I appreciate our Secretary of State Frank LaRose for a relatively smooth and fair election in Ohio.
My concern is with the election process in the state of Arizona. Why did it take a full week to get the results of their election? Florida has a population of approximately 21.78 million and their election results were known by the next morning. By contrast, Arizona with a population of approximately only 7.27 million takes a full week? Something is terribly wrong with this picture.
In my opinion, to get back to election integrity, our country needs to do the following:
-Require all legal residents of each state to show proof of identification.
-Return to Election “Day,” not Election Month. Provide mail-in ballots only to people who request them and have a very valid reason for not appearing in person on Election Day.
-Declare Election Day a national holiday, so most people have the day off work to vote. After all, is Labor Day really more important than Election Day?
-Return to paper ballots — too many things can go wrong with voting machines. Paper ballots might take longer to count and possibly cost more for the election workers, but how much did it cost the state of Arizona to count votes for a week?
-And lastly, how about implementing the indelible ink that the country of India uses on voter’s fingernails to prove they’ve already voted. The ink grows out with the fingernail.
These changes might not cure all of our country’s election woes, but they would definitely be a start.
