Dear Editor,
When I had heard that you were seeking public opinion on the solar project, I knew I had to write in.
As much as I am in support of renewable energy sources, the placement of and use of land in this area (Union county/Washington Township) I must object.
My family has been in this area since the 50s enjoying the rural life and scenery. I have been able to enjoy that for the last 34 years.
With the introduction of these solar panels and all the facilities they propose to need, it seems as though the landscape and views will be tarnished for the next 30+ years. I for one do not want to feel as though I live in a prison in my own home with 8-foot tall fences with razor wire surrounding me.
I don’t plan on leaving this area and don’t want to leave. We have already lost a lot of good farm land to housing. Although people do require a place to live, we also need land to farm on since it is with those fields we are ultimately able to feed the world.
Let us not forget about the displacement of nature. The deer, birds and even the return of our nations bird the eagle.
Also, I want to point to a recent article about potential ag business revenue losses. In my mind I feel there are better places to install panels. For instance, over parking lots as a sort of mezzanine. Cars can still access the lot and stay shaded. Also, rooftops are another source of unused space that could prolong roof life. The future of the region also has to be considered not just the here and now.
