Dear Editor,
In regards to Jerome Township’s Public Safety Officers (PSO) contract with the Sheriff’s Department, Trustees Sloat and Lovejoy have said (the) PSO program is not a sustainable strategy to expand police protection throughout the township and county since they can’t pass a levy to support more PSOs.
They want a countywide study to see if there is enough Sheriff Department protection in the county. I haven’t heard of a lack of protection in other areas of the county. It appears to me that since they can’t pass a levy to support more PSO for their township, they want more deputies in their area but have the whole county pay for them.
Plain City and Richwood have their own police departments supported by taxes in those villages.
Since Jerome Township is growing so much, maybe they should create their own police department. If their residents won’t pass a levy to support more protection, then they must feel they have adequate protection.
