Marysville’s ag science students competed in their first event of the year at the third annual Ohio High School Landscape Olympics at the Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster Nov.
The event was hosted by the Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association (ONLA). Various Ohio high schools and career centers with horticulture programs were invited to participate in the Landscape Olympics, an educational competition where students could test their skills and learn more about a career in the green industry.
The Marysville team was comprised of CJ Grose, Maria Kessler, Jackson Segner, Blake Kessler, Grant Kessler, Mitch Weinbrecht, Ashton Ropp, Nate Heinz, Rachelle Wolford and Tyler Yates.
The students participated in various events. Mitch Weinbrecht and Jackson Segner participated in truck and trailer maneuverability, CJ Grose in low-voltage lighting, Blake Kessler and Tyler Yates in irrigation, Nate Heinz and Tyler Yates in maintenance, Blake and Grant Kessler in hardscape installation, Maria, Blake and Grant Kessler in plant installation, Grant Kessler in the excavator, Jackson Segner in the skid steer, Maria Kessler in plant identification, Rachelle Wolford in cost estimating and turf grass and Ashton Ropp, Mitch Weinbrecht and Jackson Segner on turf grass.
Some students earned special recognition. The plant install and hardscape installation groups won bronze medals. In addition, Blake and Grant Kessler were awarded $750 from ONLA.
The school wishes the team good luck as they continue to compete for the rest of the season.
