Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate what started as an apparent domestic altercation and ended in a gun allegedly being brandished.
According to reports from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday morning, a Plain City man and his wife got into a dispute. The woman called for an Uber to take her from her home to work.
UCSO Chief Deputy Tom Morgan said that when the woman left, the husband, driving a black Ford F-150 pick-up truck, began to follow the Uber, a black Volkswagen Jetta. Morgan said there was “a road rage incident.”
“There is a statement that the husband tried to hit the Uber there at Cosgray and 161,” Morgan said, though he added he does not know the exact route the vehicles took to get there.
He said the Uber pulled into a parking lot at the intersection of Cosgray Road and Route 161.
The husband and the Uber driver argued, according to Morgan. The Uber driver told investigators the husband pulled a gun at that point.
“He didn’t point it at him, but he allegedly showed it and told him he needed to get out of there,” Morgan said.
The Uber driver got into his car and drove away. He called law enforcement officials about 9:24 a.m. to report the incident.
Morgan said the Uber driver was interviewed at the scene.
Morgan said the husband took the woman back to the Plain City home.
He said the husband and wife were interviewed at the Plain City home. They disputed the Uber driver’s account, telling investigators there was no gun.
“When he was interviewed, he didn’t have a gun on him and there was no gun recovered,” Morgan said.
He added that, “at this point, the stories don’t match up, that’s why we are continuing to investigate.”
Law enforcement officials are looking at security videos from the area “to determine if a gun was ever really displayed.”
“If there are potential witnesses, they can call the sheriff’s office at (937) 645-4110,” Morgan said.
