The COVID-19 death toll in Union County again rose over the weekend.
There have been eight deaths related to the virus in Union County as of Sunday, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.
The Union County Health Department indicated all deaths occurred in individuals 60 years of age or older.
Four deaths occurred in individuals in the 60-69 age range, one in the 70-79 age range and three in individuals 80 or older.
The state health department indicated that data from the weekend is incomplete and “thousands of reports are pending review.”
ODH reports there have been 1,792 cases of COVID-19 in Union County, including cases among those incarcerated at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Of those, 73 individuals have required hospitalization.
Union County Health Department officials are encouraging residents to continue wearing masks and social distancing to help slow the spread of the virus.
“As a community, we need to be vigilant right now,” UCHD officials wrote in a recent statement.
