Union County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Route 736 on Friday.
At approximately 4:47 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a two-vehicle crash with serious injuries.
Deputies and units from the Jerome Township Fire Department and the Pleasant Valley Fire District responded to the scene and found a 2014 Toyota Tundra, that was traveling southbound on U.S. 42, had struck a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit.
The preliminary investigation has determined the Volkswagen Rabbit turned in front of the Toyota Tundra and was struck broadside.
The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital and a passenger was transported to Dublin Methodist Hospital. The passenger, Johanna R. Keiser, 86, of Plain City, was later pronounced dead.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
U.S. 42 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and re-opened at approximately 8:20 p.m.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Union County Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
