A Marysville man is under arrest after a weapon was allegedly fired in a local hotel and struck a child staying in an adjacent room.
Joseph Charles Seaunier III, 45, of Butternut Drive was arrested Friday night and transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail.
According to a statement from Marysville Division of Police Chief Tony Brooks, first responders received a 911 call at approximately 9:03 p.m. Friday regarding a person who was shot in the leg at the Super 8 located at 16510 Square Drive.
The caller stated that a 4-year-old boy was struck in the lower leg by a round that came through the wall of the hotel room he was staying in.
“The round was believed to have been fired from inside an adjacent hotel room,” Brooks included in his statement.
The child was transported to a local hospital by a family member, according to Brooks.
He said responding units then secured the scene and initiated a search for the suspect.
Shortly after, two individuals – including Seaunier – were identified and detained at the scene.
Seaunier was arrested and charged with having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony, on Friday night. On Monday, an additional second-degree misdemeanor charge of obstructing official business was filed against Seaunier.
Seaunier’s first court appearance was on Monday.
Brooks noted that “additional charges are forthcoming against the second suspect,” whose name has not yet been released.
The case remains under investigation by the Marysville Division of Police.
