First responders were at the scene of a barn fire within minutes of the flames starting Thursday morning.
Marysville Fire Department Chief Jay Riley said the station received a call regarding a burning barn in the 14000 block of U.S. 36 at 11:03 a.m. Thursday. He said units were at the scene within four minutes.
Riley said the property owner was burning brush near the barn when the wind picked up and grass caught fire, which then spread to the barn.
He said the structure was a mechanical barn used to service agricultural equipment.
It also stored oil and fuel, which Riley said fueled the flames. He said firefighters were able to “quickly knock it down” and contain any further fuel leaks.
Riley said the fire was contained to the barn, which was unoccupied at the time of the incident. He said there were no injuries. A tractor was damaged in the flames.
Along with MFD, units from the Jerome Township Fire Department, Allen Township Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Fire District, Northwestern Fire District, Concord Township Fire Department, Scioto Township Fire Department, Delaware County EMS, Marysville Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Department of Transportation and Union County Emergency Management Agency assisted at the scene.
Riley said crews were on the scene for “probably about two hours.”
