A local man’s vehicle caught fire during a crash, after he was pursued by the Marysville Police Department (MPD).
At approximately 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, an MPD officer observed a black Honda Civic “traveling at a high rate of speed” westbound on U.S. 33 near Route 31, according to MPD reports.
The officer paced the vehicle, driven by Chris Hanson, 36, of Marysville, at 95 mph. He initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 33 at Northwest Parkway.
Before the officer could approach Hanson, he fled the scene.
The officer gave chase and an additional MPD unit joined the pursuit as Hanson traveled eastbound on West Fifth Street.
The pursuit was terminated when “the suspect vehicle began to operate recklessly,” driving at a high speed and outside its lanes.
Hanson reportedly continued driving at an excessive speed before crashing his vehicle near the intersection of West Fifth Street and Cedar Street.
During the crash, the suspect vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof before catching fire.
Hanson was found outside of the vehicle. He was detained and given first aid before Marysville Division of Fire arrived at the scene.
Hanson was transported to Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. His condition is currently unknown, according to MPD reports.
The incident remains under investigation by MPD. No citations or charges are currently listed.
