A local man, already serving a prison sentence for sexual conduct with a child, is again facing charges for rape.
Jordan Daniel Butler, 35, is charged with one count each of rape and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.
According to court documents, between Oct. 1, 2013 and Oct. 31, 2013, Butler allegedly raped a 4-year-old boy.
Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips said that “for a time” Butler was living in the community with the child’s mother. He explained that on occasion Butler would watch the boy for his mother.
Phillips said that on at least one occasion, “essentially, he tricked a child into performing some sexual activity.”
Additionally, Butler allegedly showed the child pornography.
The matter came to light in December of 2022. The child, now a teen, ran away from home.
“Through that investigation it was learned that child had been sexually abused when he was much younger,” Phillips said.
The boy was interviewed by doctors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital who determined the allegations had merit.
Butler is currently serving an eight-year, nine-month prison sentence in Madison Correctional Institution for attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, soliciting and sexual battery convictions in Champaign County. Butler is not scheduled to be released until June 2028.
If convicted on the local charges, Butler could be sentenced to life in prison.
Also indicted was:
– Joshua Oshay Turner, 37, of 28 Magnetic Street, Apt. C, Magnetic Springs, has been charged with one count each of domestic violence, strangulation, aggravated menacing and intimidation of a witness.
According to court documents, on Jan. 17, Turner and a woman were engaged in a verbal argument about text messages on a cell phone. The woman “left the argument and went to the bathroom to take a shower.”
“Josh Turner broke down the door and physically assaulted (the woman),” according to court documents.
Turner allegedly hit the woman in the face, attempted to put her in a “chokehold,” threatened to hit her with a hammer and hit her with a lighter.
The victim had “multiple visible injuries from the incident.”
Phillips said that while the man was in prison, he allegedly contacted the victim more than 150 times “trying to coerce her into not cooperating with law enforcement.”
Typically domestic violence is charged as a misdemeanor. However, once an individual has been convicted of domestic violence, future allegations are charged as felonies.
If convicted, Turner could face as many as 12 years in prison.
– Logan Charles Reed, 21, of 25 W. Catherine St., Magnetic Springs. Reed is charged with one count of felonious assault.
Phillips said on March 4, Reed was at his home with his girlfriend when the father of the girlfriend’s children arrived to get his children.
The woman and her ex began to argue and Reed allegedly attempted to intervene.
“A fistfight ensued,” Phillips said.
The prosecutor said someone else grabbed the man and Reed threatened him with a pocketknife.
The victim was able to get an arm free and reach for Reed.
“Mr. Reed allegedly cut him with the knife,” Phillips said.
If convicted, Reed could face as many as eight years in prison.
– Hailie Louise Barhorst, 20, of Celina. Barhorst is charged with one count each of possession of marijuana and operating a vehicle under the influence.
According to court documents, at 1:23 a.m., Jan. 16, a trooper saw Barhorst driving on U.S. 33. According to court documents she was driving 86 miles per hour without a seatbelt. When pulled over, the woman appeared to be intoxicated to the trooper.
During a search of the vehicle, the trooper found two glass marijuana pipes and a grinder with “green, raw, plant-like material” inside.
If convicted, Barhorst could face as many as 18 months in prison.
