Local residents will have the chance to make the Uptown a little cleaner next month.
The Union County Chamber of Commerce, City of Marysville and Team Marysville are marking April 27 for this year’s annual Uptown Marysville Spring Clean-up Day. According to the event’s social media page, the event will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with participants meeting at Partners Park.
“From there, we just basically make our rounds,” said Jason Stanford of the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Stanford said this year, the event is focusing on sidewalks and alleys. He said it also gives participants a chance to find hidden graffiti or broken windows in the area.
The page encourages volunteer groups to participate.
“Maintaining a clean environment is a top priority as we work to revitalize the Uptown District,” according to a release about the event. “Marysville is our home and it’s important to keep it looking nice and tidy.”
Reports indicate that more than 780 pounds of trash have been cleaned up during the event since 2017.
There is no cost to participate, though online registration is encouraged at visituptown.org/cleanup. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or be chaperoned by a group.
According to Stanford, previous years have also included a cleanup of Town Run. Due to recent flooding, however, Stanford said organizers decided not to risk it if the event sees heavy rains.
“We don’t want to take any chances,” Stanford said.
Gloves and cleaning equipment will be proved. Volunteers will also get snacks and water.
“The event will occur rain or shine, unless severe weather threatens,” organizers said.
Stanford said volunteers go, pretty much until we’re done.”
“It’s just a good community event,” he said.
