A fatal crash occurred on an abandoned railroad bed near Woodstock Road in Union Township Thursday evening. The driver of the 1998 Ford Ranger, Jason O. Morris, 43, of Columbus was pronounced dead on the scene and his passenger, Dalen A. Mullet, 41, of Columbus, was transported from the scene to the Ohio State University hospital.

A Columbus man has died in a car crash near Woodstock Road in Union Township.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, the driver, Jason O. Morris, 43, was traveling northbound on an old, abandoned railroad bed off Woodstock Road near Lincoln Road at a high rate of speed Thursday around 8 p.m.
His 1998 Ford Ranger went off the left side of the railroad bed and struck a tree, the report said.
Morris was pronounced deceased on the scene and his passenger, Dalen A. Mullet, 41, also of Columbus, was transported to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and listed in stable condition.
“The deceased was transported to the Montgomery County Morgue and an autopsy will be performed today,” the report stated. “Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol as well as the Union Township Fire Department, the Marysville Fire Department, Union County Emergency Management Agency and the Union County Coroner’s Office assisted the sheriff’s department on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, Highway Patrol and county coroner’s office.
