The Richwood Village council met Monday evening and heard about more support for the new walking path at Richwood Park.
Gail DeGood-Guy, representing the Richwood VFW Post 870 and Larry Nibert, a representative from the Richwood American Legion Post 40, presented checks to Mayor Scott Jerew during the meeting. The funds are earmarked for a new bench to be installed at Richwood Park in honor of all veterans.
Jerew also told council that the family of Jon and Brenda Davis told him that funds have been pledged for new benches, picnic tables, trees and bushes in their parent’s memory.
Jerew, who is also a member of the Trail Blazers group, stated support continues to come in to update the park. Councilman Reddy Brown mentioned that while people are purchasing benches, there is also a need for new picnic tables, which will be used in the new shelter house that will be built near the beach. There are also plans to place tables elsewhere in the park for families to enjoy picnics. The Trail Blazers will continue to work on the park project and will announce upcoming events to the public.
A representative from Holophane Lighting came to council to talk about the proposed street lights council voted on for the downtown beautification project. The representative discussed using LED lights, which will save the village on electricity, and the type of poles to mount the lights on. This project is to take place in 2019.
Council also had concerns regarding the condition of the tennis courts, basketball court and the horseshoe pits. Members will be discussing those needs and other considerations as to what is best for the park.
Jerew announced that Trick-or-Treat event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the village. Following the event, the Trail Blazers will host a “Trick or Treat, Move Your Feet” party at the Richwood Park. There will be food and a costume contest.
