Sief Alafifi, 22, of Columbus, was cited for failure to main assured clear distance ahead this morning after a two-vehicle crash involving a Union County Sheriff’s cruiser. Deputy Chief Tony Brooks of the Marysville Division of Police said dispatchers received a call about 6:57 a.m. this morning reporting an erratic driver on U.S. 33. Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Bidlack responded to the area. As he was looking for the car, a white 2018 Ford station wagon, Bidlack spotted it behind him. Brooks said Bidlack slowed so the car would pass him. The car did not pass, but struck Bidlack’s cruiser, sending it into the median near the exit for Route 4 and Route 31. Bidlack was not hurt. Alafifi claimed a foot injury following the crash.
