Fairbanks Local School District welcomed new staff members to its team during the Monday night regular board of education meeting.
During his superintendent’s report, Adham Schirg welcomed Lindsey Phoeniz, elementary intervention specialist at an annual salary of $45,230; Maggie Espada, high school Spanish teacher at an annual salary of $62,578; and Tracie Bartoe, a second-shift custodian for the middle and high school at an hourly rate of $15.96 an hour.
“We’re very fortunate to find three people who fit into our Fairbanks staff family,” Schirg said. “All three have already connected with students, family and the wider community. I’m glad to see the positive impacts they will have on students’ lives and experience.”
During the meeting the board also approved a number of resignations, certified employees, athletic and supplemental employees, classified employees, substitute employees and volunteers for the 2019-2020 school year.
Resignations included Jim Fawcett as varsity boys’ golf coach and Amy Isaacs as Panther Paws assistant team leader.
Athletic and supplemental employees were: Eli Morris, the varsity boys’ golf coach with a salary of $3,294; Andy Clark, the assistant boys’ basketball coach with a salary of $5,073; Lyndsey Mangen, the freshman volleyball coach with a salary of $3,121; and Keenan Chapman, the freshman boys’ basketball coach with a salary of $3, 535.
Certified employees were Jane Riedmiller, an intervention teacher with a salary of $35,401; Annie Nicol, St. John’s School social worker who will make $28 an hour; Melissa Vollrath, St. John’s intervention specialist who will make $56.78 an hour; Marcia Easton, St. John’s speech consultant who will make $45 an hour; and Tracy Hess, St. John’s tutor, who will make $23 an hour.
Classified employees were Kathy Stapp, a full-time route driver who will make $18.45 an hour; Courtney Willis, a part-time educational aide who will make $13.56 an hour; Christi Sheward, Panther Paws assistant team leader who will make $11 an hour; and Rachel Steinbrenner, St. John’s auxiliary aide who will make $14.81 an hour.
Substitute employees were Robin Chapman, substitute secretary who will make $9.29 an hour for school building work and $11.18 an hour for board office work; Lyndean Agner, substitute secretary who will make $9.29 an hour for school building work and $11.18 an hour for board office work; Kim Bowen, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; Joe Call, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; Don Combs, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; Tom Heineman, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; Cyndi High, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; Gary LeMaster, substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; George Walter substitute bus driver who will make $16 an hour driving and $10.25 an hour sitting; and Amy Isaacs, substitute Panther Paws who will make $10 an hour.
Volunteers included Byron Jones, girls’ golf volunteer, and Joe Landon, football volunteer.
In other business the board approved the superintendent’s recommendation to dispose of the following items: one MacBook Air, two iPad 2s, 11 iPad Mini 2s and one iPod touch.
