A call, coming from inside an abandoned home, has led to the indictment of a Marysville woman and her boyfriend.
The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Martin Goble and his girlfriend Sandra Lucille Carpenter.
Carpenter, 45, of 17817 Navin Road, Marysville, and Goble, 52 of Columbus, are each charged with one count of breaking and entering and one count of aggravated possession of drugs.
According to court documents, on March 20, law enforcement officials received a 911 call. Dispatchers were able to hear an argument between a man and a woman. They were able to determine the call was coming from a vacant home on Pine Lane.
Union County Prosecutor Dave Phillips said he does not know if the woman called 911 because of the argument or if the call was an accident.
When deputies arrived, they knocked several times and identified themselves. As they went around the home, they found a broken door.
The dispatchers said they could hear the deputies through the open line.
“After several verbal announcements, a female (later identified as Sandra Carpenter) exited out a back window where the two deputies were waiting and took her into custody,” according to court documents.
Carpenter said her boyfriend was still in the home. Deputies got permission from the owner to go into the home.
“Martin never willingly exited the residence on his own,” according to court documents. “Entry had to be made to take him into custody.”
Investigators found drugs in the home. Additionally, they found Carpenter’s car parked in the garage, “to conceal it from open public view.”
Phillips said the property owner would check on the home “periodically.” He said it had been about a week since the property owner checked.
“It is possible they were squatting there,” Phillips said.
If convicted on all counts, Carpenter and Goble could each face as many as 24 months in prison.
