Tyler M. Heap, 13, of Marysville, has earned the Eagle Scout Award, the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America has to offer to Scouts.
Tyler will be recognized in a ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Third Street in Marysville.
He is part of Troop 287. In earning this award, he joins the just 4% of all Boy Scouts who attain the rank.
To earn an Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts, each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, serve in leadership positions and successfully lead a community service project.
Among the merit badges that Tyler has earned over the last couple years, his favorites included first aid, emergency preparedness, chess, climbing, astronomy and animation.
For his Eagle Project, Tyler organized groups of youths and adults in making more than 70 homemade blankets for those in need in the Marysville community. The majority were given to Project Linus, which specifically gives them to local children in need, and others were given to The Hope Center. He received more than 110 yards of donated fabric and logged more than 228 service hours.
Tyler has also served his community at the Marysville Public Library and through his church. He is an active member in the youth organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has assisted his brother with a paper route for The Marysville Journal-Tribune since May 2018.
Tyler enjoys running with the Bunsold Middle Cross Country team, climbing at Vertical Adventures and playing board games. He has also played the piano since he was 6 years old.
He is the son of Alan and Rebecca Heap, who have made their home in Marysville since 2006.
